As the world adjusts to life during a pandemic, during the Summer months of 2020 our attention turned to the youth in our local community in Northern California and their lack of safe, outdoor team sport opportunities. IMPACT Sports Philanthropy successfully trialled a week of socially-distanced youth baseball classes and private lessons with More Than Baseball’s Co-Founder and President, Slade Heathcott. Slade was a 1st round draft pick for the New York Yankees and worked with the players on their hitting, pitching, catching, base running and infield & outfield skills while also focusing on the mental skills aspects of baseball. While utilizing the State’s Department of Health guidelines, as well as local regulations for the classes and lessons, we had to implement rules on sanitization, a strict no-equipment-sharing policy, distance standards, and a mask requirement for attendance. IMPACT will continue providing youth with these inspiring, personal experiences with former MLB Pros and current Minor League Baseball Players in partnership with More Than Baseball.
